How do I duplicate a clip from the timeline, convert it to slow motion and return to timeline?

This is probably the fastest way (there are others). You don’t need to remove it from the timeline, merely duplicate it and slow it down.

Copy the clip (Control-C)
Paste Insert (Control-Shift-V) the clip at the playhead.
Select the 2nd clip.
Clip menu > Speed Duration (or Control R)
Set the amount of speed reduction you’d like and choose “Ripple editing, shifting clips”

You make it sound easy, but I’m missing some steps. How do I copy a clip and get it into the source monitor to trim? When you trim a clip on the timeline do you have to rename it and put the trimmed clip in the project with another name? I finally did get a copy of the soccer scoring clip in the timeline and and increased the duration of the new clip, but then only the first part of the clip shows in slow motion. I guess I need to make more room for the longer clip duration but it didn’t happen. I can’t find the “choose Ripple editing, shifting clips” that you said to do, I right click on the clip and there is no choice for that. What do I do to find that option, and when and where do I apply it? Thanks for your time.

No, that would be if you duplicated a clip in the browser. We’re using the same clip a second time in the timeline. Adobe Premiere Pro treats the duplicated clip in the browser as two separate clips; but if you duplicate the one in the the timeline, it’s the original clip used twice.

If you’re using an older version of Premiere Pro it may be different!
