  • How do I cut outlines out of a shape using another shape?

Posted by Helena Masterson on April 5, 2012 at 3:55 pm

I’m trying to create some icons for a mobile app and I want to create icons like the image I’ve attached. The way Im trying to do it is by layering the two speech bubble on top of each other and the trying the pathfinder palette options. None of these crop just the top outline of the shape from the bottom to give the desired effect though. I cant use a black outline on the shapes as I will be using colour beneath them and I would like the colour to show through where the outlines should be.

Please could someone show me a way to do this?

    Hi Helena,

Take a look at this tutorial and see if it answers your question. I think this is what you were asking, but let me know if I misunderstood your question.
