  • How do i cut out text from a cube?

Posted by Oliver Morgan on March 22, 2008 at 12:56 am

I would like to cut out text from a cube but am not sure how to do this. Basically, I would like a solid cube, but with letters cut out of it on the surface. I’m not sure if i want the block to be cut all the way through, or just down into the surface, but I’m not sure even where to begin with this. Can anyone help? Thanks…

Easiest is to use a Boole object, it takes two objects and adds or subtracts them depending on the settings. You want the default A subtract B setting. A would be your cube B your text (probably an extrudeNurb).

    Boole
    – cube
    – text

Don’t want to step on Brian’s toes, because he basically taught me everything I know with 4D, but I would create an illustrator file with the words cut out of a simple rectangle, import it, and then extrude it.

Then, if you want limited depth, you could drop a cube behind it.

Booleans, I’ve learned, can add considerable processing to a project, but if the overall project is small, Brian’s suggestion can be done all in 4D.

Funny Brian.. but honestly, you’ve been incredible help to me since I’ve started to use 4D, and suspect you’ll save my butt 100 more times to come.

I really appreciate you.. and the Cow….

    Thanks!
