How do I create that jumpy jittery bad gate feel that old 8mm has?
Posted by David Gjester on March 25, 2009 at 12:10 amI want to create a chaotic look in a rock video like setting. All the footage is very precise and pristine which is the opposite of what I need.
So the thing is I need to get the film jumping over frames jittering melting out etc. Its specially the skipping frames I need help figuring out.

March 25, 2009 at 2:54 am8mm is 18 fps. Use posterize time, a lot of large sized grain, wiggle expressions in the x,y position, heavy contrast, etc. If you search in the forums here, you’ll probably find many detailed posts.

March 25, 2009 at 3:27 amif you want smooth 18 fps and not jerky 18fps then try this
29.97 interlaced to 18 progressive
1.Put 29.97i video in new 59.94 “start” comp so that timewarp can access both fields.
2. add effect->time->timewarp speed at 60.545403%, filtering extreme,vector detail 20
3. make new “output” comp 99 fps and drop “start” comp inside it with timestretch 60.545403%
4. output “output” comp with separate audio layer from original video at 18 fps fields off. add motion shutter blur if desired.tested and works well with 24 fps look too.

March 25, 2009 at 1:26 pmI also think you could add Digieffects’ Simulate Camera to your list of options…
I think the “Archive” effect is close to what you’re looking for…

March 26, 2009 at 7:54 amThe best and easiest way to achieve the look you want, is to buy the TWITCH plug in from videocopilot.net it is very easy to use and has a lot of different types of this effect built in that you can also tweak to make it your own.
