How do I create Pomplamoose-style videos (black borders around each clip – multiple split screens)?
Hi everyone, I’m currently checking out a Sony Vegas Pro demo and I would love to know exactly how to edit videos in such a way where they look like this….

No matter what I try to do, I can’t get the borders to be consistent among the size of my clips… if I pan or crop, the border gets screwed up. So frustrating. I’ve tried using the Border effect, and the Track Motion 2D glow… don’t know what else to do.
I’m currently trying out a demo of Adobe Premire Pro CS6 as well…. trying them both out to see what would be best for my needs (I’ve used Vegas Movie Studio for years, but can’t get the look I want)… maybe I should just save and buy a used Mac desktop and Final Cut Pro 7 (if I can even find it, haha)

That’s just 4 separate Tracks in Vegas. Each Track keyframe is set such that they do not touch, hence the black spacing. You might want to use Excel to do some basic Track keyframe value calculations. You know the w,h is 1920 x 1080. 50% w is 960; 50% h is 540. Such a Track would be one quadrant (1/4 size). Additionally, calculate the x,y positioning values.
In the clip, the vertical (guy standing and clapping) looks ~40% width, which means two lower tracks (girl w/ headphones, guy on keys) are ~30% width each.
Use P/C keyframes within each Event clip to key-in exactly what portion of the source material you want in each Track.

NewBlue V6 has a plugin called “Picture Grid” that works pretty good.
I know it’s hard to get those black lines equal. I’ve sometimes made a transparent PNG file with lines on it and inserted it above my tracks to create the black marks. That way positioning the events isn’t quite so difficult because they can go behind the PNG file.Roger Bansemer – PaintingAndTravel.com
