    Hello everyone,

I need to convert a 23.98 timeline to 29.97. I’ve read many, many threads regarding this question and I have not come across any thread that actually has a resolution. Please answer this question only if you have actually done what you are about to suggest. I don’t mean to be cocky, just want to move on…

I have a Sequence within Final Cut Pro 7 with an editing timebase of 23.98. What I need to do is convert it to 29.97 so that I can add the file to Roxio Toast 11 and create a Blu Ray disc. I asked around and read quite a bit and I have come to the conclusion that Toast 11 has a problem handling 23.98 files.

Note that the final Blu Ray disc will contain three sequences. The other two sequences are already 29.97 and look amazing on Blu Ray.

Please reply in laymen’s terms as I’m pretty new to FCP and all these timebases and formats.

YOu can’t. You cannot convert a 23.98 sequence to 29.97 in FCP. Cannot be done. The best you can do is export a 23.98 self contained QT, take that into Compressor and convert it there. Go into the FRAME CONTROLS in the INSPECTOR and make sure the RATE CONVERSION is set to FAST (You’d think BEST, but no, FAST), and put everything else on best.

Depending on how long this is…it will take a while.

Two years later and I’m about to follow this advice. I’m worried about audio sync problems. Should I lay those worries to rest?

Sync sticks. You can even do a test if you want. A new file is made, so you can do it and see for yourself.
