How do I change text in duplicated track
Posted by Richard Klimesh on April 13, 2005 at 8:50 pmI have a text event on one track using track motion key frames to fly it around. I’ve duplicated the track twice and offset the event on the two new tracks down the timeline a few frames so the three text events appear to be chasing one another. My problem is that I need different text on each track and when I change text in one of the tracks it changes in the other two as well. How can I change the text on the duplicated tracks one without affecting the other tracks?

April 13, 2005 at 9:27 pmDo a simple test: hold down the control key, left-click one of your text media, and drag to a new location. You will see a box that pops up with two options:
1) create a new copy
2) create a referenceWhat you have done is “create a reference”. Therefore, when you change one, they all change to match because they all reference each other. In other words, instead of having THREE text boxes, you have ONE text box that is on the timeline THREE times.
To get past this problem, you could add a NEW text box as a TAKE (and then possibly remove the original “reference” box)

April 13, 2005 at 9:39 pmThanks for you quick reply. I have used that method of making copies of text events, but in this case I want to also copy the related Track keyframes by duplicating the track. Is there a way to duplicate a track without it being “referenced” to the original? So that changes can be made independent of the original track?

April 13, 2005 at 10:16 pmI’m not positive this will work, but try holding down the CTRL key, grab your clip and move it elsewhere. I believe this will DUPLICATE your clip with all info attached.

April 14, 2005 at 12:09 amMatthew, you are right that it copies the event plus event keyframes, but it does not bring along track keyframes, which is what I want to do. I know that I can cut and past them, but just duplicating a track is a much more elegant solution – except that then I can’t change text on one track without affecting the others. A solution is welcome.

April 14, 2005 at 1:03 am1. Duplicate Track, which will have track keyframes.
2. Create New Video Track above
3. Select first title and right click > Select evnts to end
4. Ctrl – Drag all titles up to new track and choose Create New option rather than reference
5. Delete all titles from the Duplicated track, leaving just the track keyframes
(IMPORTANT – first make sure that Options > Lock Envelopes to Events is disabled, otherwise the track keyframes will disappear)6. Select all in the new track and drag them down or hit Numerical 2.

April 14, 2005 at 4:38 amjedit, I tried that method and indeed it preserves the track keyframes but the original event keyframes are obliterated when I add a new text event as take.
