  • How do I capture in the background with Premiere

Posted by Chris S on May 11, 2005 at 12:43 am

I would like to work with other programs as premiere captures footage from the miniDV tape. But after I start the capture process and switch to another window in WinXP, the capture stops and asks me to name the newly captured footage.

How do I capture in the background as I work on other stuff on the computer? I did it before by mistake and dont know how to do it again. Thanks for the help.

What version of Premiere Pro are you using? Background capturing is only supported in Premiere Pro 1.5.

Premiere Pro 7.0 (1.0) does not support background capturing.

Just a quick tip: Scenalyzer is a small shareware program designed for scanning and indexing tapes, and it can do background capture as well. It has a buffer and is surprisingly robust when it comes to interruptions in the dataflow.
I also find it brilliant for capturing stills from you footage instead of the tedious process of selecting “File -> export -> export to frame -> type filename -> press save”. In scenalyzer you just press F2. Scenalyzer then exports that frame with names with auto increments. (file format, naming, etc are set in the preferences)
