  • How do I capture analog audio into FCP?

Posted by Chris Foogs on September 25, 2007 at 9:24 am

I’m trying to capture analog audio from a minidisc deck, through a KonaLS card and into FCP. I have so far managed to be able to hear the music coming into FCP and it can record in voiceover but it is currently only a mono track and limited in length. Is there a way I can use the log and capture tool to only capture audio?

I have unticked “video” in the clip settings and set the device control to “non controllable device” and the preview window says “video disabled audio capture only”. But when I hit capture now, an error comes up telling me it can’t capture as there is no video?

Can anyone tell me what I need to do?

Many thanks, chris. (Running FCP 5.1.4 on a G5 with external konaLS)

Set your Device Control to “Non-Controllable Device.” This is covered very well in the Help Menu.

    Hi Walter,

thanks for the response, but as I wrote in the original post, I have already checked that setting:

“I have unticked “video” in the clip settings and set the device control to “non controllable device””

Have you any other thoughts? I thought I had read somewhere that the system needs some sort of analog video coming in as well to make the analog audio capture work…?

    Thanks for the replies.

Not in my experience. I’ve captured from audio cassette machines with no video hookup at all in the past. Really don’t have any other suggestions for you, sorry.

maybe this oldway can help :
try to digitize your audio bypass using minidv player, connect your output minidisk to input audio in minidv than in fcp set your device to “non-controllable device”, just in case set your capture/input to dv pal

    regards,

Do you have ref video going to your Kona? FCP may want a video source for timing even though it’s only recording audio. Try sending some video to the card while you try to record the audio and see what happens.
