    hi there,

i’m confused how to do this camera effect from this video. pls refer to frames between 7s to 70s.

    https://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2380594248490913816&hl=en

i already have the stills edited into layers. i’m just wondering how to put these together with the camera track Z tool (i think that’s what was used here, but i guess i’m wrong).

please, need your help badly. i just need to get this thing done today.

    thanks a bunch!

    sincerely,
    bernadette

hi … if you’re not sure about using After Effects 3D space then you should check out some of the tutorials here at the cow …there are a few introductory tutorials that aren’t exactly the same effect that you are doing but it will teach you how to use the camera and 3D space … maybe do the 3D rollercoaster tutorial to learn about using the 3D camera….

maybe search the COW archives for “kid stays in the picture”, “3D photo”, “carnivale” …I’m sure there are lots of threads about this technique already ….

give that a go, then if you have some more specific questions feel free to ask…

    good luck!

Set an initial keyframe for camera position by clicking the Camera’s Position Stopwatch, then move down the timeline and move the camera with those camera Orbit Tools, repeat. Here is a tut that talks about finetuning the camera, mostly with east ease:

maybe I was getting a bit excited when I said “rollercoaster” …it’s actually a “wild ride”

    enjoy…..

Keep in mind that part of the effect that you’re seeing is that a portion of the photograph (the person/persons) have been cropped out, then added as a seperate layer. Both the full photo and the cropped person are set to 3D layer, then the person layer is positoned forward of the complete photo in Z space. When the camera is orbited around, depth is added because you can see that the front layer is indeed further forward than the back complete photo. In some of the shots you can even see the duplicate person on the background photograph.
