How did they create the effect at 2:55 in the “I’m On A Boat” music video? Here is the video (warning: the language is censored, but you may want to mute the audio if you’re concerned about it being NSFW):

Any idea how they did this? I’ve tried a combination of quick cuts, blurs, and levels and haven’t quite nailed it.

    Thanks,
    JB

Just looks like editing with the blur applied after the cut (not in camera), combined with the beat of the music. Do the editing in an NLE first, then bring it in to AE. Duplicating someone else’s work exactly is usually more difficult than creating something new.

    Hi there,

you can achieve this effect in post within After Effects by adding Time Remapping to the video, speeding it up and slowing it down by adding keyframes then create the blurry efffect by applying frame blending, precomposing and then adding the Echo filter to the footage. this effect was used a lot on music videos in the 1990’s, I remember it well! We were asked to recreate it about a million times! 😉

    hope this helps.

    cheers,

    Angie
