  • How did Premiere CS6 do that? (import automatically R3D files from proxies)

    Hi all:

I have an old project (from 4 years ago), shot on Red One and edited on FCP7 using an offline/online workflow, that I needed to import into Premiere CS6. I took the offline sequence in FCP, exported an XML file, and imported it into Premiere.

Now, the offline sequence in question is composed of self-contained Prores 422 Proxy Quicktimes… and yet, when importing it, Premiere asks me for the locations of the original R3D files, and instead of linking to the proxies, it links directly to them.

My question is: how did Premiere do that? Not that I’m complaining (much more convenient!), but I’d like to know where did Premiere get the information about the original Red files. Opening the XML file, I see that there are metadata fields in each QT file with names like “com.apple.proapps.originalFormat” and “com.red.clip.originalSourcePath”. Do all Prores Proxy movies have this information? Or is it created only by certain specific software? (I don’t remember anymore how did I generate the proxies back then).

That is odd. It would be understandable if it were the RED proxies themselves
in the sequence but you had it happen with transcoded prores.

    one of those bug blessings.
