  • How Delete Old FCP when upgrading

Posted by Stu Aull on April 11, 2007 at 12:44 am

    Hi All-
Mac PPC Tower OS 4.0.8/FCP 5.0.3

Going to update to FCP 5.1 Studio, which I got from Apple as a complete set of DVDs (w Motion, Livetype, etc.)
How do I delete the old FCP/Motion/etc – and – what, if anything, can I do to preserve any layout preferences, etc. Is it as simple as just dragging the old “Studio” elements into the Trash??

    Thanks!

If I recall correctly, when I upgraded I didn’t delete anything, just ran the updater and everything took care of itself. Old studio was gone, new studio was in my applications folder.

    Thanks Dablo-
Yeah, likewise when I just updated –

BUT this is an All-New set of DVDs for the entire Studio package – so I am thinking it is not going to just “attach” itself to the older software like an update would, but this would be an entire NEW version.

    So the Question still stands…
Do I – and HOW do I – delete the older FCP data-????????
    Thanks all

I can appreciate your apprehension stu aull. I also used a whole new set of DVD’s when I installed vers 5.1 from 5.0.3. When you get to the screen in the install process where you actually have to hit the “install” button it should actually say “upgrade”. also if you look at the version numbers on the disc you will find that some are the same version. (although you should use the new discs only when you upgrade to 5.1)

If youre still not sure, what I’ve done is hit command f to do a find and just delete everything that is associated with the FCP studio. (It’s probably not the best way but will work if your careful.)

I still think that if you use the new set and just go ahead and install all the files will be replaced in your application folder. Macs are good that way.
