    If u like to do that in ae 1st need a cool meteor photo.
    next edit that in photoshp and create a layer for the shiny parts, use a cool orage color and apply some noise to make diferences in the color.
    import in ae, apply some shine (from trapcode) or glow (various plugins do that, u need to try to get what u like).
    Then u can insert it in a cool scene with various earth photos (to get different angles); make some masks in black solids to simulate shadow and for the cool effect when the shadow pass over the buildings u need to use a displacement map (u can find more information about displacement maps in this forum).
    Don’t forget to make a cool color correction and that’s it
    oh! if u like some clowds effects for the dust in the meteor, u can use some dust clouds photos edited in photoshp or use a particles plugin (like particular from trapcode).
