  • How come some of my media are references/alias?

Having a real hard time with FCX. I am noticing on a current project from a single import session, some of my media was copied into my events “original media” folder while others are just reference clips (alias’). I asked it to “copy files”.

How can I make the reference clips become the full clips as intended?

Select your Event and choose File > Organize Event Files.

This will replace the reference files with the actual source media files.

    That worked! Thanks Ronny.

Except for some reason it appears my “Background Tasks” monitor hangs when importing around 53%. In this case it was stuck on 53% even though in the original media folder I see all the alias’d media was correctly replaced by original footage. After restarting my background tasks monitor showed no activity.

It is common to find it freeze like that?

If you were still importing you probably shouldn’t have hit the organize media files. It was just using aliases until it was all imported/transcoded. But I have seen the monitor hang, especially on export to weird codecs like WMV, and the import / export was just fine. If all your media is imported and ok I wouldn’t worry about it.
