  • How can you create a dream sequence effect like the hobbit?

Hi from 10 degrees C nearly York UK!

    Ok well heres today’s question.
I love the effect shown here in the hobbit:

Basically in abode premiere or after effects (I have CC versions) i want a sequence in the film to go black and white and look like everything is bleeding / melting like theyve done in the hobbit.

Turning footage to black and white and slowing down the footage is the easy bit, but what effect could emulate the dream like effect they apply when a character in the hobbit puts the ring on.

    Grazie mille,
    David

Check this tutorial out to get started.

You can then play with desaturating, increasing contrast, and adding some sort of distortion effect. You’d probably want use some track mattes with your footage for the warping.

Add an Adjustment Layer with Glow on it and work at 32bit color to get the dreamy glowing look. A Photo Filter can help with the blue hue. Trapcode Shine using a blue color preset and Normal compositing mode can add to all that’s been mentioned.
