    i can’t create a 10-bit cineform, but i have tested 10-bit uncompressed quicktimes, and them come into ae as ‘trillions’ (despite being ‘billions’)… so, it may be that ae is not accurate in it’s description of the color depth in the project window.

    i still feel that ae is not changing the data contained within the file, but i understand your concern.

    have you tried posting on adobe’s ae forum? i would be interested in what they may have to add to this.
