  • How can I open this type of file in PPro CS6?

Posted by Matthew Sonberg on January 12, 2013 at 4:35 pm

I believe this file was wrapped in FCP. I’ve done some reading and it’s sounding like it can only be opened in FCP. Is this accurate? Can someone try to download it and tell me what they think? I’m hoping there’s a way for me to work with these files as they are in PPro CS6.

I ran Gspot on one of the same types of files I have and it says:

    Codec: ai1p
    Status: Codec Status Undetermined

    Any suggestions?

    Hey
I have no problem importing your file in PrePrp CS6 (MAC)

I’m on a PC, maybe that’s the issue? Do you have FCP on you Mac? If so, I read that having FCP installed will make the appropriate codec files available for PPro to import.

I’m trying to avoid having FCP on my machine… or having to spend the money on FCP is a better way to put it I guess.

yes, I do have FCP7 on my Mac.
But can’t you get the AVC-intra codec from the Panasonic website ?

If you are on a PC you cannot install FCP on it. It is for Macs only. 😀

Thanks to those who responded. Even after installing the P2 codec I was unable to open the files. It turned out to be an easy solve in that I simply had the client send me the original P2 files from the camera to another external hd and ship it overnight again. The first batch I was able to confirm was exported out of FCP in the QT format. But I guess PPro doesn’t have the codec to support it.

Again thanks to those who took the time to respond here. I’ve always had good advice and help from the Cow!
