How can I make objects appear to float using AE?
what is the best way to make small objects appear to float? sort of like if a character has a special power where they can move objects with their mind?
i am writing a script where these things will happen subtly throughout and before i shoot it, i’d like to know some tips on what the post production side of things will work.
for example, in a classroom setting, what would be the best way to portray an eraser lifting up and erasing something written on the chalkboard as the teacher stands in the shot and watches?

You have to isolate the object. You have to shoot the board as a clean plate. You have to fill the board with animated text. You have to move the eraser in time with the writing disappearing. You have to direct your talent to react to stuff that isn’t really there.

You will also want to include a particle effect (or possibly some fractal noise screened over your footage) to fake the dust from the erasing.
