  • How can I make a diagonal light beam pass through text?

Posted by Ricky Garrard on September 10, 2005 at 10:22 pm

Hey, I’m not sure if I am describing this correctly, but many times you will see text appear and then a vertical/diagonal beam of light will sweep through all of the letters. I believe I have seen a tutorial on this somewhere, but I can’t find it. Please point me to a tutorial, or please just explain here. Thanks so much, Ricky.

    OR__no plugins

create a new comp. Add black solid comp size. Add white solid. Mask white solid so it is rectagle. Feather X only. Animate mask so white rectangle moves accross screen.

Add to main comp above logo. Try different transfer modes. use alpha matte if need.

Additionally some more effects can add. Like use a displacement map. With another copy of rectangle comp as the source. This way it sort of bulges as the light passes.
