how can i log my timecodes?
Posted by Milton Hockman on May 8, 2006 at 4:13 pmi am trying to make a B Roll tape for my company. I want to have a piece of paper go with the tape that has the Name of the Shot, and then In and Out Timecodes for each shot. this will enable someone to look at the tape and look through the list of shots and know where to look on the tape for that shot.
is there a way i can export this kind of list from avid to print out easily? or am i going to have to manually type it up in Microsoft word?

May 8, 2006 at 4:47 pmSet up a custom bin view in TEXT mode and have it display whatever columns you feel are important. Clip Name, Start/End TC, comments, etc..
Then with the bin active, you can either set it to Print or Save Bin As… there you can select a .txt
Bring the .txt file into Excel and you now have a searchable document that you can set up and format however you like.

May 8, 2006 at 5:19 pmi am on an xpress pro. the only option i have under SAVE BIN AS… is .avb file. there is not option for .txt.
also, i was going to make a sequence with all the footage in it and then Digital Cut that. I want those timecodes saved as a text file. becasue they will match up to the tape timecodes.
Do you know how to do that?

May 8, 2006 at 5:49 pmOkay… sorry, I was doing it from memory. It may be “Export”
As for getting the TC’s to match, do this:
-put all your stuff in the B-Roll Sequence.
-Create a new bin
-Mark In/Out on each shot
-do a Sub-sequenceThis will put each shot into the new bin and because each shot is a Sub of the original sequence it’ll retain the TC info of the original sequence.

May 8, 2006 at 7:01 pmI found it. First you must open the bin you want save as a text file and then go to FILE>EXPORT and Choose TAB DELIMINATED to save as a TXT file.

May 10, 2006 at 2:52 pmSo, you’ve got a bin with all your info in TEXT view and you export the bin as a txt file (Tab Delimited) and you don’t see anything in the txt file?
What happens if you try to open the txt file in Excel?

May 10, 2006 at 4:24 pmHey mr gfx,
Maybe you could try this. take all your shots, lay them down on your timeline. Then go into EDL Manager
and under file click on get current sequence. You will then get an EDL list with all your in & out points.
From their you can save as a text file, and print it off to be with your tape.Hope this helps
