How can I key video & stills through boxes?
I’m going to have a 4-box setup for an upcoming ad. That is, there will be 4 boxes on the screen simultaneously with four different stills/video playing within them. I need to be able to key frame the stills and reposition the video within each box.
I’m quite familiar with the process in FCP. I would create a white box via Photoshop or a cropped video slug from within FCP and simply pull the video through with a luma key. This also allowed me to key frame the video/stills while maintaining the binding edge of the white boxes.
I fooled around in Premiere for a bit trying to figure out an equivalent procedure. From other threads and my own experimentation the closest I can get is:
1) Create a white box in Photoshop or Premiere (cropped color matte)
2) Place the box above my video in the timeline
3) Add a track matte key to the video track to pull it through my boxHowever, when I do this I can’t key frame my video and/or stills b/c it pulls the matte along for the ride. The only work around I’ve found is to nest the content and then apply the track matte key to the nest (key framing moves to the original footage within the nest). This works but I’m kind of blindly setting my moves and then flipping back out to the nest to see the result.
Is there an easier way to go about this (other than jumping into After Effects)? Any and all help is much appreciated.
