Audio in FCPX…the Jim Giberti Technique. I highly suggest it.

In a nutshell, you start your picture with a gap clip. Then attach a secondary piece of audio to that gap clip. THen turn the secondary into a primary.

“P” is your friend here because it allows you to put audio in the primary wherever you want it by placing it and then sliding it where you want. You can assign a role to it and export accordingly.

In X there are effects from Logic built in and they sound great. You can then create compound clips and apply effects to the whole CC (a kind-of bussing).

“P” really doesn’t get the respect it deserves does it?
Also “,” and “.” these are the things that make a hybrid approach possible in X.

We should start a thread of the little things (P certainly is a big thing) that make editing fast and that are demonstrably different from legacy and other NLEs. They can get overlooked because of that.

Like, in audio editing, Control/+ Control/- for making fast 1DB adjustments to clips.

CTRL-S it splits audio from video to make J cuts and L cuts incredibly efficient.

CMD-8 for bringing up the audio enhancements tab. I use it all the time.

I still find split edits incredibly inefficient. First, you have to press ctrl+s vs. a simple modifier key in 7, option. Once it’s split, doing a roll of the audio portion requires yet another special key I only found mentioned in the manual – shift+. (You have to also position your the cursor first on the right edit.) Without that keystroke you’re only allowed to roll the audio on either side, pushing the other audio out of the way. Even pressing T first only allows the video to be rolled.

Then, unless you like wasted screen estate, you close up the split to get back that quarter inch gap that does nothing.

    Jim,

Have you ever put all your FCPX audio workflow methods together in one post?

[Bret Williams] ” I only found mentioned in the manual – shift+.”

I’m not following you here. I don’t have to do that.

CTRL-S. Then yes I use the mouse in the timeline. And take advantage of the magnetism.

I also set the editing preferences to show detailed feedback. Then I double click the edits and can precision edit the clips…using the mouse. The results for me have been awesome and much faster than 7 (6, 5, 4, and 3 also).

The Share Menu is gone in 10.0.7
I want to export some bad audio from a clip to fix in Izotope RX. Then i need to chop it up in logic. I just need to export a wav or aif.
I am looking in File menu / Share/ and there are no options for just audio. Even Add destination doesnt have an export audio option.
Izotope RX works as a standalone.
