  • How can I create a text effect in AE and export it on a completely transparent background for Premiere?

Posted by Accountneedsrealnameupdate on September 21, 2005 at 6:36 am

I am creating text effects in AE that I want to open in premiere and overlay on my video. How can I make the AE composition background transparent so only the text effects appear when used in premiere?

    Thanks
    Tom

if you render out with an alpha channel it should all be good. For example choose quicktime animation codec. Remember in your output module, channels needs to be set to RGB + Alpha. All good.

You can test your alpha channels by clicking on the little white rectangle at the bottom of the comp window. It is next the the red, green and blue rectangles….

How do I initially setup the alpha channel so the entire background is transparent instead of the standard solid black? I am using AE 6.5 standard instead of PRO if that makes any difference.

    Thanks

All clips actually have a background, (typically black) but once the clip has an alpha then the black is removed. So don’t worry if you see black when you initially render and play the output file.

Render the file using the Render Queue’s Output Module labelled “Lossless Plus Alpha”. The text will appear to be on black but don’t worry.

Import the resulting clip to Premiere and make sure the clip transparency is set to “Alpha – premultiplied with black” or similar.

sometimes to make it easier to see change the background colour to something bright. Like bright green or pink. Ctrl-Shift-B.

…Or activate the checkerboard control in the composition window, it’s the button next to the “Active Camera” control. It will show you the transparent backround the same way as photoshop does.
