  • how can I create a particle vortex effect.

Posted by Andrew on October 3, 2006 at 10:55 pm

I need to make a quick transition out of a pile of leaves. I want it to feel like a dust devil or vortex.
I have been fiddling with Particular but can seen to figure it out. Help!

Not sure how exactly you want it to look, but:

    a) Make your leave a 3D layer in a sub-comp.
    b) Animate a spin/ tumble to your needs.
    c) Make that sub-comp a custom particle in your main comp and use one of the split clip methods.
    d) Emit all your leaves at once by keyframing your Particles/ sec. from an extremely high value to 0 over the course of say 3 frames from a box emitter. Use no velocity at all.
    e) Animate Wind and the Radial Field Strength to make them move when you need to.
