I’m aware AE would be much better for this but I only have premiere currently.

Slightly hard to explain without seeing the footage but please take a look at the screen shot from it. The video tracks from left to right past the black thing that looks like a chess piece. Behind that is a white pillar and I will put some text that tracks along with the pillar behind it. Im using simple keyframes to add motion to the text so it tracks in time with the pillar.

What is the easiest way to make the text appear as though its behind the black chess piece? essentially create a mask around it so the text is only visible after the chess piece goes past it.

Hopefully someone can make send from this!

Having only Premiere, you might need to cheat it. Take a frame grab into Photoshop if you have it, and remove the background leaving just the chess piece. Maybe enlarge it a little. Save as a .psd or other format with alpha channel to maintain the transparent background. Put this graphic on a higher track in Premiere, above title and background video. Add motion and keyframes to chess piece graphic so it tracks with, and obscures, the original item.

Assuming a slider was used for video? If pan is smooth with consistent speed, this trick might look passable. For hand-held footage, then probably won’t fly. I notice the “chess piece” is out of focus with fuzzy edges, so that doesn’t help. That is why I said to make the still image a little larger, to completely obscure the original.

    Good luck
