Posted by Mickie Shaw on January 19, 2007 at 7:43 pm

I have a sequence with clips that are Drop frame and Non Drop Frame. How can I convert the clips all to one TC formate: DF or NDF?

Thanks in advance for your advice. You guys are great!!

You can take a DF clip, put it in a NDF sequence, and then export. Or you can take the clip into cinema tools and alter its Timecode. Just two ways that immediately popped into my head.

    Ummm…

I gotta ask…why would you want to do this?

BTW, you can load any clip into the viewer, then select “Timecode” from the modify menu to change its timecode.

    Hi,

I am having trouble “print to tape” no timecode is recording on tape. I’m guessing it’s a problem with mixed TC in the sequence.

Sorry, but your guess is wrong. When you set your sequence to DF or NDF, no matter what the source clips TC is, it fits into the TC of the sequence. That is not your issue. It is something else. Let this TC of clips nonsense out of your brain.

NOW…when you say you get NO TC to your tape, it stays at 00;00;00;00 and doesn’t move when you press record?

DM, you have got to get your stories straight here. You said in another post that you are getting timecode to tape. You are leaving out some sort of crucial piece of the equation that you aren’t admitting to. mixed tc formats in a timeline does not mean that you no timecode on a tape lay off.

Sounds to me like you want Final Cut Pro to write the timecode from your sequence onto your tape. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do that. You need to black a tape starting at a point before your desired start timecode, then use an insert or assemble edit (and you need a deck capable of doing these edits) to place your footage exactly at that timecode.
