  How can I check firewire ports?

  I’ve searched the previous posts on the COW all with good information but I still can’t get my firewire drive (which has always worked on this system) to mount on the desktop. I reset PRAM and PMU, ran tech tool etc., the drive in question comes up perfectly on all our other Mac systems nothing has changed. How can I tell if the ports are bad or make the system poll the ports to see if anything is wrong? Running OS 10.2.6 (I can’t upgrade because of hardware boards) G4 Dual 1GHz.
