  • How can I add arrows and camcorder effects?

Posted by Tinfish on September 15, 2005 at 9:33 am

    Dear Vegas experts,

I’m looking for a couple of effects for a video project.
I’d like to add an arrow to the video as a means to point
things out. There are no arrows in the Cookie Cutter effects
in Vegas-5 that I can see. So is there a script somewhere
    that would do the trick?

Also, I once seen a games video where the chap had added
a camcorder recording effect which looked very impressive.
The effect, or mask, was simply a flashing word ‘rec’
(for recording), and a camcorder-type curved frame at each
corner of the video. Any idea if such an effect exists for
    Vegas-5.

    Thanks in advance,

    Tin

In Photoshop you can easily draw an arrow on a transparent background (make the image size 756×568 pixels). Save as PNG file and import in Vegas.

For the rec text: add a new title and type rec. Make the text red and place in corner. Make the event one sec long and copy it as many times as you want, having one sec of empty space between the events.

    Good luck,

    Thanks Barend.

Quick question. When I import the file from PhotoShop to Vegas, will it appear
in the Cookie Cutter section ?

Select the Wingdings font in Vegas titler. There are several different arrow styles there to choose from. I did this several times last year for construction students wanting to point out specific things on house building project videos.

NO. I recommend you use Mike’s technique of just using a text arrow. It can be rotated and resized as needed via Pan/Crop.

Thanks. I’ll try that, plus Mike’s tip as well.

Once again, great forum. Much appreciated.
