How are the army clones in this effect achieved?
How would you achieve this clone effect in after effects? Only way I’ve seen before is simply keying the footage and multiplying the layer. But in some of these shots you can see thousands of clones, they can’t have multiplied the layer that many times! There must be an easier way?

Because handling 1,000 layers would take a lot of time and processing power. It would be much easier if you could apply a motion tile kind of effect.

You can also use a particle emitter like trapcode’s particular and use a video clip as the particle. You should be able to offset the time on it too if you want it to look like an army vs a repeated image.

Thanks Derek! That was exactly the solution I was looking for. I never thought to try Particular but it only took a few minutes to create a fantastic army/clone effect! Awesome!
