I have captured DV Footage using a DVX100, and the footage looks great. Crisp, and clear. I am editing in FCE on a 13-in macbook. I realize that I’m recording an interlaced video and once in FCE, I’m going to get interlacing issues. However, even before the interlacing issues, my picture looks extremely pixelated! Even on a screen grab it looks pixelated. My settings are as follows:

Original footage imported as DV/DVCPRO – NTSC.
    Sequence is DV/DVCPRO – NTSC.

I’ve tried changing the field dominance of the sequence, but none of those options seem to help at all. I’ve tried de-interlacing the footage using MPEG-Streamclip and then reconnecting the FCE project media to the de-interlaced footage. No luck. Any suggestions?

you may want to change your sequence setting (using Apple Pro Res 422 or DVC50).
I’m not sure if you can import with the DVCpro50 or Apple Pro Res, (if not just stick with the NTSC/DV) and just change the sequence setting.

Whats is the end use of the video? Will it be for TV/DVD? Or web only?

If web/computer only, use the De interlace filter (VIDEO filters).

If it is for TV broadcast, its supposed to be interlaced. Can you setup TV to view the project while working on it….

IF it is for a DVD, I’m bot sure about interlaced…

Its FCE (Final Cut Express), Apple Pro Res and DVC Pro50 aren’t compatible.

Thank you For your speedy responses! I figured out the issue. The video I’m editing has a channel mixer filter added to make it black and white. Only the color red was being extremely pixelated. I didn’t notice it because everything has already been filtered to be black and white. To fix it I went into the channel mixer filter and lowered the red and raised the green and blue in the Red output section. This cleared it right up!

    Good Luck,
