  • Horizontal vid flip, weird vid FX problem, and HD problem. Please help!

Posted by Jason Ryan on July 27, 2007 at 3:38 am

First problem: I can’t figure out how to flip video horizontally.

Second problem: I messed something up in Vegas so that when I click on the video FX button on any individual clip, it won’t let me adjust the effect. It just shoots the dialog box down to the lower left part of the screen and it disappears.

Third problem: I put MXF files (converted to AVI’s with Raylight’s DVFilm converter)and MOV files filmed on an HVX 200 onto an HD 1080 24p timeline. I have the Raylight viewing codecs installed. I can edit fine, but when I go to render segments, I can’t render to any format except NTSC DV and NTSC DV widescreen. I can’t render to HD or even to NTSC 24p.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1-Choose pan/crop icon on the event, when it opens, right click and choose “flip horizontally.”

2-You’ve docked a window in your docking area. Remove it/move it. Hold CTRL while moving to prevent it from docking. It will no longer dock there in the future until you dock it again.

3-To which HD format would you like to render? Sony YUV? XDCAM? HDV? AVCHD? MPEG 4?
Look at your MPEG templates and you’ll see the available options.
yes, you can render to 24p NTSC. There isn’t any way I can think of that those options would disappear. MPEG, yes. DV? Not reasonable to have them disappear.
FWIW, we have an HVX, I use Raylight, and it renders to whatever format I wish…check your templates again.

Instead of being Docked as Spot mentioned, it may also have been moved “off the screen”. In that case, you can try changing your screen resolution, finding the box, move it back to the main part of your screen, and then reset your screen resolution back.

You could also hold down CTRL-SHIFT when starting Vegas which will reset it back to “factory defaults” but then you’ll also have to go back and change any settings you may have changed.

Thanks for the tip, Ed. It was docked and the change of screen res did the trick.

Thanks for the info on the horizontal flip, Douglas. That was easy.
What’s not so easy is this HD problem I’m having. With this converted HD footage, I’m telling you, I can’t render to anything but NTSC DV and NTSC DV widescreen. It doesn’t matter if I’m making MPEG-2’s or AVI’s. It pretends like it’s rendering, but the video preview box stays black instead of showing what it’s rendering like it normally does. A file is made, however, but it’s a .m2t file, whatever the hell that is. It is of significant size, but the .m2t won’t play at all. Any ideas Doug? Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks again for the help,
