Is there a shortcut key for adjusting the horizontal scale of a timeline? The bar on the bottom works fine, but I prefer to keep my hand off the mouse whenever possible.

If there is such an animal, the google isn’t helping me find it. I found how to zoom on tracks vertically, but I can’t find anything that expands and contracts the timeline horizontally.

    Thanks!

The default shortcuts are minus (-) and equals (=) to zoom the timeline. These are called Zoom Out and Zoom In under Application > Sequence in the visual keyboard shortcut editor. Another good one to know is Backslash (\) to zoom to fit the entire sequence.
