Horizontal lines in video
Hi! I’m working on a project shot on canon c500 posting on avid. I’m doing AMA link and transcoding in avid to DNX36. For some reason my video in avid have these horizontal lines in playback…esp during moving shots. I exported a QT and the lines are not there. I assume it’s a playback issue, help? I’d there a way to not have these while playin back?

It could be “tearing” in the Avid viewers. This has been an issue for a while that comes and goes depending on system configuration and format, etc.

Sounds like the soure footage is interlaced.
If so after AMA linking you need to use set source and check interlaced is selected. Before transcoding. Dnx36 is progressive only so you need MC to deinterlace durung the transcode. Which it will fo if the source is flagged as interlaced.
Your current dnx36 mefia maybe no good if it has embedded interlacing tearing.Pat Horridge

I don’t know if it’s the source footage, b/c the QT I exported did not have the lines…
Can you explain the process of the source set? I’m not familiar with it, and i’m sorta new to AMA linking. Thanks! -
I would create a temp 1080i project.
AMA link a sample clip.
Use the command palette in direct mode and use the field stepping buttons to step through some frame with movement. You should see a 2 appear top right of viewer every other step and the timecode increment every 2 steps. If you see the.movement progress each field step its interlaced. If movement changes every pair of steps its progressive.
To ensure the AMA setting is correct right click on clip and choose set source. Go to first tab and change field order. If interlaced it should be upper field for HD.
set project format to progressive (you won’t get dnx36 as an option in an interlaced project.)
Then re transcode and check again.Pat Horridge
