April 28, 2005 at 4:50 pmThat is exactly what I was referring to earlier, I definately remember this being said. Not to beat a dead horse, but I remember people saying to that the panny engineers were working on this capability… What post did Jan shoot this down in?

April 28, 2005 at 11:27 pmIt does seem a bit weird that sbp2-transfer was so advertized and then it’s not there or it works only when camera is not recording. Maybe that’s an upgrade we get with A-model next year…

April 28, 2005 at 11:54 pmI missed this sbp2-transfer advertisement. You someone direct me to it? I’m sort of lost without knowing what exactly you are referring to. Sorry.

April 29, 2005 at 2:52 amAt this year’s NAB, I was intrigued enough about this idea to seek out a few “big wigs” at the Panasonic “booth” and ask them directly if a 2.5 or 3.5 inch PCMCIA hard drive could be directly connected to the P2 slot on the camera. The three looked at me and laughed with one “explaining” in some gobbly-gook fashion that the P2 cards were somehow formatted or set up specifically for the camera’s output. When I asked if we could expect a Panasonic 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch hard drive for the camera, he gave me a “you think we are stupid?” kind of comment and shrug.

April 29, 2005 at 2:53 amSBP2 is part of the spec, the camera does support it. It’s used when you go into “dub” mode. During “live” mode (i.e., camera recording) the data on the firewire port is a live streaming version of the 1080/60i or 720/60p signal, employing AVC protocol. When you go into “dub” mode, the camera can then control an external drive by using SBP2 protocol, which allows you to copy the contents of a P2 card over to an off-the-shelf hard disk.

April 29, 2005 at 8:17 amThanks Barry.
So what we might get in A-version, is option to choose witch protocol to use when camera is in “live” mode…
Or Panny keeps its lineup: cheap cameras and expensive memory and tries to make their money with p2’s. -
