HOLDING SYNCH DURING PLAYBACK – DVCPRO HD/LONG TIMELINES
Hello:
I’ve had some playback synch issues playing back shows with my setup. I have a 2.7 Dual G5, Kona 2 card, Dual Firmtek Serial ATA RAID arrays with WD CAVIAR II RAID drives. I noticed this problem on two recent shows — one was a 40-minute film shot in 24P on mini-DV, the other was a short film shot on the HVX2– at DVC PRO HD resolution.
When I’m cutting, I don’t notice any synch issues, because I’m only looking at short bits. When I played back the shows for the client, the audio synch would slowly drift over the length of the show. If you stopped playback and immediately started it again, it would return to perfect synch and then drift out again.
I have a feeling there’s a setting somewhere that is incorrect…I find it hard to believe that my drives wouldn’t be fast enough for this material.
Any real-world advice appreciated. Oh yeah, I’m running the latest/greatest in terms of system and FCP software.
Thanks in advance.
Best, JIM.
