Hmm. Bear with me. This is a bit complex to explain.

We got an editor that is working on movie project. At the same time her co-editor (if there is such a word) is batching in new tapes. The problem is that the editor, only wants to work with one project… so what we have are two duplicated projects.. and the co-editor has to change the editors project at the end of the day when he adds new tape to the project. … Cool

However.. Now the coeditor has figured out that he needs to change comments on clips in the browser that is already is in use in the timeline… which is a bit complex, cause then he can’t add the comments in his own project, and paste them into the “original” master project.. cause then shift-f will not work on that clip anymore. (show clip in browser)

hmm. Did anyone really get this ?? Well, to make it very short. How can two people work on the same project at the same time. In avid people can work at the same project as long as they don’t change the “folder” that the other editor is working on,.. anything similar in FCP ??

    Anders,

I was with you up until the point where your editor wanted to change the clip names! As you know, FCP and AVID take a very different approach to using media. FCP media does NOT live in a “project”, but only in a folder where it’s accessible to anyone. We take advantage of that feature and have producers, writers, assistants, etc. accessing that media for all sorts of things. However, the “renaming” that you’re referring to is going to trip you up. The quick answer to your question is I don’t believe it’s possible to do what you’re proposing. You COULD open the primary editor’s project at night, do the renaming then, and resave to both machines. Or… you can just punt and say, “Don’t rename the frickin’ clips!”. Hope this helps.

Haha.. thanks for making an effort. Norwegian is my mother tongue, and it gets a bit difficult sometimes.

Well, we are using xsan, so both editors have access to the files at the same time. (Hey.. you are in the xsan family too, right ??)

We have chosen to go the easy way on the renaming thing (only one editor working at the project at the same time)
