    Hey Folks

Just got an HMC150 yesterday, so far I’m loving it. One of the coolest things I discovered was being able to pull out the SD card and pop it into my Playstation 3 at home for screening. I can jump from clip to clip using the remote and the PS3 handles every possible rez and frame size that the camera shoots.

Which brings up my next question. How can I get finished projects back onto AVCHD so I can screen them at home? We deliver all our shows to broadcasters on HDcam and archive internally on DVCproHD, but i’d love to put finished shows on SD cards so I can screen them at home in HD without the hassle of going to Blu-ray. I think there is a Panasonic utility to do this on a PC, but we’re all Mac based.

    Any thoughts?

What format does the PS3 want? I imagine some sort of H.264 or WMV would do the trick…

    Hi Noah

PS3 seems to take H.264, but there are a bunch of hoops you need to jump through to get it too work. Straight out of FCP doesn’t seem to work in HD. That’s why I thought it would be great just dump a clip to an SD card in AVCHD and be done with it.

Hmm- yeah I don’t see that happening with the camera alone. Try encoding with Handbrake- it has a built-in PS3 preset:

    Hi Noah

I’ve used Handbrake before, but it doesn’t do HD for PS3.

I’ll have to fool around with the .mts format a bit and see what I can come up with.

    Hi Noah

Just found this, which looks even more promising:

    https://shedworx.com/revolverhdmac

export from FCP and make AVCHD files for PS3 on USB drives or DVD (in HD)

Until we get easy drag and drop Bluray (and cheaper drives and discs), this might be a good interim step.

I’ll post back after I’ve tried their demo.

    Cheers
