HMC 150/151 vs JVC GY100
Hi guys,
During next month I’m gona buy a new cam for my semi pro jobs. After looking at some tests and reviews I decided to go for the Panas HMC 151.
But recently saw JVC GY100 model and saw a day pics taken from it and i must say there were amazing!
Pros for Panas: 1/3 CCD, wide lens good picture quality in low light
Pros for JVC: great pic quality in good light, 2 card slots and mp4 instead of AVCHD.What is more – I read that JVC when switch to new files during long play (4gb limitation) do not lose any frames and Panas 151 does 🙁
Basically i know those two cams are very SEMI pro but they cost (well in my place) almost the same.
I’m still more into Panas but hesitating.
Any toughs or suggestions?
PS -I even consider buying Canon MarkII 5D instead ’cause my main work is doing simple commercials for TV/Internet/DVD market and MarkII is great for short productions

Hey Peter,
I am looking at the same two cameras, the HMC 150 and GY100. I posted an inquiry today and hadn’t noticed yours until after I posted. The missing drag & drop function for Final Cut is causing me the most hesitation.
Some of the reviews on the GY100 said that they had problems with adjusting the iris while recording, that it jumped between settings rather doing a smooth transition. Some complained of it’s very small size, and others liked the size because it was well-suited to going unnoticed while shooting gorilla and less intimidating on interviews.
I look forward to getting some feedback on the comparisons between these two $3,500 prosumer camcorders.

To be honest i don’t care about the size – both are small cameras for me 🙂
The only thing for me is that
1 – JVC – great pic quality in good light, good codec’s, 2x SDHC
2 – Panas – good low light condition good pic quality (i haven’t tested it)3 – MarkII – AMAZING pic quality but You won’t do many things with it like wedding (as A camera)
