  • Hitting Enter in a text box: Photoshop CS6

Posted by Laura Shayler on December 6, 2018 at 9:56 am

So up until today, every time I hit Enter when I have a text box open it just jumps to the next line like you would expect from a word processor. For some reason this morning it decided to stop playing ball and now closes/accepts the text box instead of jumping down a line.
I’ve tried resetting the text tool, resetting all tools, trying Shift+Enter and nothing seems to do the job.

    Any pearls of wisdom? TIA

(Line) Return and Enter are two different keys on the keyboard with two different functions. The Line Return key gives you a new text line while the Enter key applies the settings (and often closes the dialog as well).

The key that I am using (see image) is the same key that I have always used to create a new line of text and it is no longer doing so.
Instead it is applying the settings and closing the box. Neither the line return key, nor the enter key gives me a new line of text.

Ok, I see. Try shift-enter, that’s a forced line return. Don’t know if that works for this, but it might.
