I’ve looked everywhere and can’t seem to find the effect where a person is hit by a bus…and, this effect was created with AE.

Anyone remember where this explanation of how this effect was created may be.

just to help jog a memory… the scene is where a woman is talking to a man (may have been an argument)… and, he walks away and steps right into the path of a bus. Might have been a TV show.

Try searching the COW for “hit by a car” (no quotes).

It was on “Lost”. Juliette’s ex-husband turned around, stepped off the curb, and got splatted by the bus.

I’d either green screen the actor or make a mask of their movements, composite that on top of the video of the bus streaking by, and then at the moment of “impact”, use the mesh warp effect to distort their body appropriately over a few frames and then keyframe their movement offscreen

That’s it….that’s the scene on TV I saw… seems like there is a short explanation of how they did this… or, my memory could be confusing the videopilot clip with the bus hit.

I intend on green screening the whole prop area and props (still in plannning phase)…

Use an a 8 ft tall (long) and about 6 ft. wide 20 inch thick pad (used by gymnists) mounted on a dolly/cart (or something that can get a little speed up while pushing… haven’t decided what I want to use)… in combination with a harness wire to give the actions a small amount of lift and jerking effect to the impact.

This is going to take some experimenting to get it right, but it should look OK….and, will probably look much more realistic than using warping as an effect.

The reason I asked the question in the original post, is because if the scene I am planning is going to be only a couple of seconds long and single camera… then, doing the green screen, pad, cable/harness will probably be overkill and I can achieve the effect with simple editing. On the other hand, if it turns out to be a multi-camera set up that will take up to 4-6 seconds long… the back drop props might be needed.

BTW, I still haven’t found the tutorial that explains this effect… but, as best I can tell it is just a matte/roto-scoping process that will take some time to get correct (…and, can probably be done in an NLE and skip using AE).
