    As you can see in the picture below, this is the levels histogram of a still taken from DVCPro HD footage, and it has many gaps. This image (which I can’t show as I don’t have a release from the client) will be used on as part of the DVD cover (but not full size)

    This stills looks very good on my screen given its source, but from my more active Photoshop days, this tells me that it may cause issues at print time. Could somebody refresh me on what causes these gaps?

    ah, it hit me after I posted; DVCPro HD is 8 bit, and now that I am looking closer, I can see slight banding. Any tips on smoothing things out?

    Applied the evil diffuse glow on a second 30% screened layer, and everything is beautiful again 🙂
