    Hey,

I’m seeing a difference in the brightness of the highlights between my DV NTSC FCP Quicktime and my rendered DV NTSC Clip from AE.

I render out of AE, import it into FCP, and compare the shots. There’s a definite difference in the highlights and contrast of the image, but negligible without comparing the two shots. Does AE automatically adjust for broadcast safe colors, because the AE clips happen to be safe in FCP, whereas my original shot in FCP is not. Or is this something to do with bit depth?

I’ve tried rendering with “none” compression and animation out of AE instead of using the DV NTSC, but it’s the same thing.

Honestly I don’t enjoy all the technical side of this stuff. But I know I need to know it. Can anyone help?

Seems to be a known issue between QT, FCP and AE. Try a COW Search.

At the end of the day, a solution where you place an Adjustment Layer at the top of the Comp to be rendered out to FCP, with the required Levels or HSL settings is the way to go.
