  • Highlighting text as it is spoken

Is there a way to do this in FCP?

I want to inlay text in a 3 or 4 minute video clip.

This is for an educational project– aimed to help English-as-a-Second-Language kids (around the age of 5 or 6).

    Thanks for reading this.

[Brian Lee] “Is there a way to do this in FCP?”

There are so many different ways to do what you want that it’s impossible to guess exactly what you have in mind.

You need precisely define what you’re envisioning, then we can tell you how to accomplish something like that.

Hint: You might want to think about a colored rectangle, created in Photoshop. You can change the opacity and reposition the rectangle with keyframes over time in the FCP Motion tab. Or, you can use a wipe transition effect in FCP to do virtually the same thing.

Sorry about reviving this thread.. but I am trying to produce a karaoke-style video.

Ideally, the letters will highlight in sync with the music, while there is a video playing in the background.

I tried layering two text tracks (w/ 2 different colors) and animating it– but it didn’t look very good.

    Any ideas??

The plugin is too expensive– our company has a small budget.
