I am having a problem applying a highlight from the generators under render in FCP. I am new and I still haven’t found all the ways around this program. I deleted the preferences and that didn’t do anything. Everything else is working flawlessly and I needed to do a quick simple project and I wanted to use the highlight as a border and basically it’s working but where it should be transparent for the video image to show all I get is the equivalent of a slug with a highlight.

    Thanks, Bruce

You could crop and feather out the black, or you could apply a luma key and that will eliminate the black. Otherwise create your highlight in a program like Photoshop w/ transparent background and export out as a png, that will give you an alpha channel.

    Hi Bruce,
Do you want to use the “highlight” to mask a picture?
You need to put that picture in the V3.
The Highlight in the V2 and a bacground picture (if you want) in the V1.
Set the picture in V3 to Travel Matte Luma.
You will get the picture in the white areas of the highlight while the black areas will let you see the background.

Thanks Rafael, also want to say thanks to Jason as well. You guy’s pointed me in the right direction. When I right clicked I found what I needed in composite mode as a screen. I’ve been through so many tutorials lately I could not remember which one showed me the correct way to do that, plus I was getting droopy eyed last night…lol

    Thanks again, Bruce
