  • Highest Rez iShowU captures for web movie

I’m creating a web movie using SD footage and iShowU HD screen captures. I want to capture the entire screen and then, in Final Cut, zoom in on certain parts of the screen. Which iShowU setting will give me the highest possible resolution?

My Final Cut sequence settings are:
    frame size: 720 x 480
    Aspect Ratio: NTSC DV (3:2)
    Anamorphic
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO – NTSC

When I try to duplicate these settings in iShowU HD, the .mov files are still not nearly hi-rez enough for zooming in.

    Thanks,
    Dave

[david mayer] “When I try to duplicate these settings in iShowU HD, the .mov files are still not nearly hi-rez enough for zooming in.”

That’s because when you zoom in, you’re blowing the image up so it falls apart.

What you want to do is start with a larger image in iShowU and scale that down in FCP.

Thanks, Walter. Yes, that seems to be the ticket. BTW, why are these files so enormous?

That is wholly depending on the codec you capture to.

Try capturing ProRes (not HQ) and the entire screen. You can zoom upwards of 3-400% without any major visual loss.

Also, set your sequence settings in FCP to ProRes as well. DV-NTSC is just going to make these look craptastic.

    Thanks Nicole,
I did try it using Pro Res and it is way better.
