    Hey guys

have a quick question — I have been given a high res jpeg — 720 x 576 — now they want me to just place this jpeg in the avid and let it play for 3 seconds — they want to send it off for broadcast — now if they give me the high res jpeg and i put it into the avid — the picture is going to look quite bad — so what do you suggest — should I put it through photoshop first or what — please help me out on this —

and do I need to reformat the picture

    Please Advise

have you tried it and it looks bad, or are you guessing that it is going to look bad?

meaning… resize it first in photoshop. Don’t let Avid do it.

Resize it to 720X486 and bring it in uncompressed without resizing it.

    Hey

    Thanks for the feedback

So as we work on Pal here — i can bring it in as 720 x 576 — make sure its RGB — and ignore the alpha channel

    it should be ok —

yes, just let avid resize it when you import it. Check your import settings.

If it’s already 720×576 then Avid shouldn’t be resizing it at all, it’s native PAL. What resolution are you importing at?

There is an effect called pan and zoom. Apply this to a clip in your timeline. Go into the effect editor and click on the minus sign in the upper left corner. Choose your hi res graphic, and it will allow you bring it in higher res, and do moves on it. This is the best Avid only way of doing it.

There is a plugin from stagetools.com that does it better, but costs.

I believe there is also a BCC effect that does it as well.
