I want to place high quality “title” photos in my NTSC Dv 720 by 480 timeline. I can start with a graphic at 1440 by 960 pixel dimensions @ 300 dpi…but as soon as I throw it onto the timeline, and export it….it loses it’s sharpness & quality. Which is natural because a 720 by 480 movie can only show…,just that —>720 by 480 pixels. Yet, is there a way to keep the video footage at 720 by 480, and maintain hi-res images??

I sincerely appreciate any and all help. Thanks.

Make sure that you render your timeline. It should be capable of looking pretty good.

Don’t put all those wasted pixels in the timeline. You’re relying on FCP to scale it
when you should do it in Photoshop first. If you’re not using the DV video preset in
PS, which will do the square to rectangular pixel thing for you, size your graphic at 720×540
(square pixels) to have it look right in rectangular video pixel land. Add a little vertical motion blur
    while you’re in PS too.
