I have searched the post but I can’t seem to find the answer. Within the next month our station will be broadcasting in HD. What kind of power will I need from my PC to run After Effects HDV (1080i) projects and is 6.5 professional enough or do I need any special plug-ins?

6.5 should do the trick. As far as power goes, go for the bestest available and 4 GB of RAM would be good. Learn to work with proxies, I’ve been saying this a lot lately.
Keep your old machines for setting up render farms.
