I’m editing a feature film on an Xpress Pro. The sound I’m getting is often up to 6 tracks. Working with that many tracks in a timeline really is a hassle, so I wanted to hear if anyone knows of a good solution. I’ve heard someone talk about the possibility of hiding tracks, but I’m not sure how that works. The issue is just as well that the sound guy wants all six tracks, we can’t just use the boom track, cause then he won’t be able to sync up the rest of the tracks.

    Any suggestions?

I don’t know of anyway to “turn off” audio tracks, but you can create a Timeline View with the audio tracks all really small (CTRL+K to reduce the size)

Check the fast menu in the timeline. You should be able to hide tracks there.

This may only be possible in Media Composer though. Maybe time to upgrade if so?

only having 8 to work with, getting lost in avid’s audio tracks is not somewthing I have ever had to worry about.
You do know you can control/drag their size to shrink em, right?
You’ll be best off allowing yourself to see whats going on at any particualr edit, especially with a feature.

CTRL + K is the way I work with them. Shrink the buggers as far as they will go.

If you really want to hide them, I believe it’s CTRL + H which hides the selected tracks. To get them back you have to use the little hamburger menu at the bottom left of the timeline and either turn them on one at a time, or turn all tracks on at once. Unfortunately “all tracks on” turns on the film icons which you will want to then turn off.

An alternative to the all tracks on method is to simply click the View Menu button and select whatever setting it was that you were using before you decided to hide your tracks. That way, you avoid activating the film icons track.
